The platform powers modular billing engines, low-level energy-market communication protocols, and a full accounting ledger — enabling dynamic electricity plans that help businesses and consumers significantly reduce energy costs.

As a Backend Engineer on the core infrastructure team, you'll design and scale the foundational systems that make all of this possible. You'll work across billing, payments, and distributed data services in a high-ownership, low-bureaucracy environment.

What You'll Do

Solve for complexity through design — architect clean, maintainable solutions to genuinely hard infrastructure problems.

Scale the core — build and evolve the services that power billing, energy-market integrations, and accounting at scale.

Bias for action — move fast, ship iteratively, and take end-to-end ownership of your work.

Raise the bar — contribute to engineering standards, code quality, and team practices.

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

Proficiency in backend development with TypeScript (Node.js) and a strong command of asynchronous programming patterns.

Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and an ORM — ideally Drizzle — for robust data access layers.

Experience with Next.js, including API routes or server components used for backend services.

Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and designing scalable, maintainable core services.

C1+ English proficiency (written and verbal).

Strong CS fundamentals — whether from a formal degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have:

Experience integrating Stripe payments and related billing workflows.

Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Temporal) or API frameworks (e.g. Hono).

Background in energy, fintech, or other regulated/complex-domain infrastructure.

Soft skills:

Strong written and verbal communicator.

Ownership mindset — you treat problems as yours to solve, not to hand off.

Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous early-stage environment.

Tech Stack

Languages / Frameworks: TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js, Hono

Data: PostgreSQL, Drizzle ORM

Infrastructure / Tooling: Temporal, Stripe, Tailwind

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $80,000 – $120,000 USD per year (or local equivalent)

Visa sponsorship available

High-impact role at an early-stage company with significant ownership and upside

Location

This is a fully on-site role based in Berlin, Germany.
