The Leibniz Institute for Contemporary History (IfZ) is a non-university research institution dedicated to the study of German history from the 20th century to the present, within its European and global contexts. Founded in 1949, it initially focused on the Nazi dictatorship and has since expanded its scope to include dictatorships, democracies, transformations in recent history, and international relations. It is a member of the Leibniz Association and is funded by the German federal and state governments.
