If you are only looking for a fixed monthly salary right now, this is probably not the right role yet.</em></strong></p><p><br/></p><p>You can find more about the project at Mawforged.com.</p>System Engineer / Infrastructure Engineer<p>Axiosys GmbH is building Mawforged, a dark fantasy survival game developed in Unreal Engine 5.</p><p>Behind the game, we also need solid infrastructure.</p><p>We are looking for a System Engineer who can help us build, maintain, and improve the technical systems we use as a studio. This includes servers, internal tools, access management, backups, deployment workflows, security, documentation, and general infrastructure.</p><p>This role is not about sitting in meetings and talking about infrastructure.</p><p>We need someone who can actually help run it.</p><p>The goal is simple: our team should have stable systems, clear access, proper backups, secure services, and tools that do not randomly break every two weeks.</p>What you will work on<ul><li>Help manage and improve our self-hosted infrastructure</li><li>Support services like Nextcloud, OpenProject, Git repositories, password management, and internal tools</li><li>Help with Linux server administration</li><li>Work with virtualization, especially Proxmox</li><li>Help with networking, DNS, VPN, firewall rules, and internal access</li><li>Support OPNsense or similar firewall setups</li><li>Help with backups, restore testing, monitoring, and basic disaster recovery</li><li>Improve server hardening, permissions, and access control</li><li>Help automate recurring tasks with tools like Ansible</li><li>Support Docker, Podman, or similar container setups where needed</li><li>Help document systems properly so knowledge does not stay in one person’s head</li><li>Troubleshoot issues when services, certificates, DNS, storage, or access break</li><li>Help prepare infrastructure that can grow with the studio</li></ul>What we are looking for<ul><li>Good Linux knowledge</li><li>Experience with Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL, AlmaLinux, or similar systems</li><li>Understanding of networking basics like DNS, VLANs, VPNs, routing, firewall rules, and certificates</li><li>Experience with Proxmox or other virtualization platforms</li><li>Experience with self-hosted services</li><li>Basic understanding of backups, monitoring, and security</li><li>Ability to troubleshoot problems properly instead of guessing</li><li>Someone who documents what they change</li><li>Someone who can communicate clearly with a small team</li><li>Someone who understands that infrastructure needs to be boring, stable, and reliable</li><li>Someone who can take ownership instead of waiting for every small instruction</li></ul>Nice to have<ul><li>Experience with Ansible or other automation tools</li><li>Experience with OPNsense, pfSense, Fortigate, or similar firewall systems</li><li>Experience with Docker, Podman, or containerized services</li><li>Experience with GitLab, Azure DevOps, or similar development platforms</li><li>Experience with Nextcloud, OpenProject, Passbolt, or similar internal tools</li><li>Experience with AD, LDAP, SSO, SAML, or identity management</li><li>Experience with monitoring tools</li><li>Experience with backup systems and restore testing</li><li>Experience with game development infrastructure or build pipelines</li><li>Basic understanding of Unreal Engine team workflows</li></ul>What we offer<ul><li>A founding-level role in an early-stage indie studio</li><li>Real ownership over the infrastructure side of Axiosys and Mawforged</li><li>The chance to build systems properly from the start</li><li>Remote flexibility</li><li>A team where technical decisions can actually be discussed</li><li>Revenue share or equity depending on involvement, contribution, and long-term commitment</li><li>A project where infrastructure is not treated as an afterthought</li></ul>Who this role is good for<p>This role is good for someone who likes building stable systems and solving real problems.</p><p>We do not need someone who only says “works on my machine”.</p><p>We need someone who can help make sure the studio has reliable tools, clear access, proper backups, and infrastructure that supports the team instead of slowing it down.</p><p>This is also a good role for someone who wants to grow with the studio and take more responsibility over time.</p><p><br/></p>Final note<p>This role is important because bad infrastructure wastes time, blocks the team, and creates chaos.</p><p>We want to avoid that early.</p><p>If you are interested in Linux, servers, networking, automation, self-hosted tools, and helping a new studio build a proper technical foundation, we would be happy to hear from you.</p> </div>
