<div class="show-more-less-html__markup show-more-less-html__markup--clamp-after-5 relative overflow-hidden"> <p>We are excited to be partnering with our client, <strong>AVIV</strong>, on their search for a <strong>Staff Backend Engineer</strong> for their <strong>Trust &amp; Safety</strong> organization.</p><p><br/></p><p>🏢 Berlin, Germany</p><p>⌚ Full-time</p><p>💪 Senior</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>WHAT WE DO AT TRUST AND SAFETY</strong></p><p><br/></p><p>Real estate business is a place where all real estate actors gather (home seekers, owners, intermediaries, etc).</p><p><br/></p><p>Trust and Safety’s primary success factor is to provide the highest standards in terms of safety, truthfulness, relevance, efficiency, and quality of the interactions between each of these actors.</p><p><br/></p><p>Many factors have an impact on the quality and trustworthiness of the marketplace.</p><p><br/></p><p>The Trust and Safety teams’ role is about designing and developing best-in-class content detection and quality, rating, scoring, and matching mechanisms that ensure the engagement of our users is constantly pushed up, and the quality of our content in this marketplace is constantly improving.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>The composition and roles of Trust &amp; Safety</strong></p><p><br/></p><p>Together, the teams make up around twenty people for now, including:</p><ul><li>Data &amp; Backend Engineers</li><li>Data Scientists &amp; Analysts</li><li>Product Managers</li><li>Engineering Managers</li></ul><p><br/></p><p><strong>Your Responsibilities</strong></p><p><br/></p><p>As a <strong>Staff Engineer</strong> for Trust &amp; Safety at AVIV, you will serve as the primary technical authority for the entire T&amp;S organization. Operating at the level of the Head of Engineering, you will oversee the definition and implementation of an architectural roadmap across all T&amp;S pillars: <strong>Anti-Fraud</strong>, <strong>Content Quality</strong>, and <strong>Trust Platform</strong>.</p><p><br/></p><p>Your mission is to move AVIV from a collection of siloed, static detection tools to a unified, high-scale “Trust-as-a-Service” platform. You will be responsible for the “Golden Stack” that powers real-time “neuron-based” scoring, ensuring that our technical foundations are resilient, auditably secure, and capable of handling the high-throughput demands of our marketplaces.</p><p><br/></p><p>Some examples of projects that you will work on:</p><ul><li>Fraudulent Content Detection</li><li>Republication Detection</li><li>Identity verification</li><li>Fraudulent Activities Detection</li><li>Legacy Fraud System Deprecation</li></ul><p><br/></p><p>WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN INDIVIDUAL WHO CAN:</p><ul><li><strong>Cross-Pillar Architectural Governance:</strong> Define and enforce the technical standards and “Golden Stack” for all T&amp;S squads to ensure interoperability and eliminate technical silos.</li><li><strong>Real-Time Risk Engine Vision:</strong> Lead the shift toward a “neuron-based” Risk Engine by architecting data flows that enable continuous, event-based scoring across the user lifecycle.</li><li><strong>Global Vendor Strategy:</strong> Oversee the technical integration and performance of 3rd party safety partners (IDV, Besedo, Sift), ensuring high availability and automated fallback logic.</li><li><strong>Operational &amp; Decision Health:</strong> Establish SLOs and observability frameworks (e.g., Datadog) to ensure the accuracy and latency of safety-critical decisions.</li><li><strong>Organizational Mentorship:</strong> Act as a force multiplier by mentoring Senior Engineers across the 20+ person T&amp;S organization and influencing the broader AVIV engineering community.</li><li><strong>Adversarial Resilience:</strong> Lead the technical response to sophisticated, cross-marketplace attacks, ensuring our infrastructure can adapt to emerging fraud or other abuse patterns in real-time.</li></ul><p><br/></p><p>Our Stack</p><ul><li>AWS (CloudFormation, EC2, EMR, Lambda, ECS, Glue, Athena)</li><li>Docker</li><li>Github, CircleCI, Datadog</li><li>Python (main language), Java / Scala / TypeScript (secondary languages)</li><li>Apache (Spark, Parquet, Hudi)</li><li>Jupyter, pandas</li></ul><p><br/></p><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><p><br/></p><p>AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS:</p><ul><li><strong>Strategic Technical Leadership:</strong> 10+ years of experience in backend engineering, with a proven track record of overseeing cross-functional architectures for large-scale organizations.</li><li><strong>Backend Mastery:</strong> Deep expert-level proficiency in <strong>Python</strong> and high-performance distributed systems.</li><li><strong>Advanced AWS Ecosystems:</strong> Mastery of event-driven and serverless architectures using <strong>AWS Lambda, Kinesis, Glue, Athena, and ECS</strong>.</li><li><strong>Stream Processing &amp; State:</strong> Extensive experience with real-time stream aggregation and stateful feature stores required for sophisticated “behavioral drift” detection.</li><li><strong>Systemic Legacy Modernization:</strong> Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale deprecation of legacy systems while maintaining 24/7 service availability.</li><li><strong>Infrastructure as Code:</strong> Advanced proficiency in <strong>Terraform</strong> and CI/CD orchestration at a platform level.</li></ul><p><br/></p><p>NICE TO HAVE</p><ul><li>Good security understanding</li><li>GDPR / privacy focus</li><li>Experience with ID verification or external risk scoring providers</li><li>ML knowledge</li></ul> </div>
