Over the last few days, I’ve spent hours with the engineering leadership and hiring team at a Series A MedTech start‑up digging into what actually makes a senior engineer stand out for them – not in theory, but on their current products, teams and roadmap. One theme came up again and again: proximity to the customer.

They’re building AI‑native products that help medical device companies design safer, higher‑quality products far more efficiently, in a heavily regulated environment where “just ship it” is not an option. To do that, they want engineers who are as excited about sitting with a customer as they are about shipping a clean, scalable system.

What you’ll do

Join user interviews and customer visits, turning messy real‑world problems into clear product decisions and technical plans.

Own features end‑to‑end: discovery, architecture, implementation, deployment and iteration in production.

Build scalable web applications (Node.js/TypeScript backend, React frontend, or equivalent experience and willingness to switch).

Think through databases, security, observability and CI/CD from day one, not as an afterthought.

Help shape the technical roadmap and development practices, and mentor other engineers in a small, senior team.

What they’re looking for

Proven track record delivering and maintaining complex web applications.

Strong backend experience on modern web stacks and solid frontend experience with a major framework.

Genuine engagement with AI: at minimum, you follow the space and have built things; ideally, you’ve helped ship ML/LLM‑powered features or serious side projects.

Product‑minded, communicative and comfortable working closely with product, design and customers.

Open‑minded, low‑ego, and keen to contribute to a high‑trust, high‑feedback culture.

You don’t need prior MedTech or ISO experience; you can learn the regulated environment on the job.

Practical details

Location: Vienna or Berlin, with a couple of days a week on‑site.

Eligibility: You must already be able to work in Europe or the UK (no new visa sponsorship yet).

They offer competitive salary, meaningful equity and a culture that genuinely values autonomy and ownership.

If you’re a senior full‑stack engineer who wants to be in the room with customers and then turn those conversations into valuable, scalable systems, drop me a message and I’ll walk you through the details of the team, roadmap and interview process.
