You’ll be responsible for team performance, predictable delivery, and engineering quality, while still contributing to architecture and code where it matters most.</p><p><br/></p><p>You’ll report to the Engineering Director and work closely with Product, Design, and Analytics to drive meaningful business impact.</p><p><br/></p><p>What you’ll do</p><p><strong>Team Leadership &amp; People Development</strong></p><ul><li>Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team (4–9 engineers), providing clear direction, focus, and context</li><li>Hire, mentor, and develop engineers through continuous feedback and performance conversations</li><li>Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and engineering excellence</li><li>Ensure accountability for outcomes, quality, and predictable delivery</li></ul><p><strong>Delivery &amp; Execution</strong></p><ul><li>Own end-to-end delivery, including planning, prioritisation, and dependency management</li><li>Proactively manage risks, remove blockers, and ensure timely execution</li><li>Partner with Product to define roadmaps and OKRs</li><li>Communicate progress, trade-offs, and outcomes to stakeholders</li></ul><p><strong>Technical Leadership (hands-on ~40%)</strong></p><ul><li>Contribute to architecture, prototypes, and critical code paths</li><li>Validate technical solutions across service design, integrations, and data models</li><li>Ensure alignment between technical initiatives and product priorities</li></ul><p><strong>Engineering Excellence</strong></p><ul><li>Continuously improve engineering practices (code reviews, testing, CI/CD, observability, incident management)</li><li>Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems following clean architecture principles</li><li>Drive performance optimisation and cost efficiency</li><li>Champion modern development practices, including AI-assisted workflows</li></ul><p><br/></p><p>What you bring</p><ul><li>5+ years of software engineering experience</li><li>2+ years of people management experience with ownership of team outcomes</li><li>Proven track record of delivering high-quality software in a predictable way</li><li>Strong experience in system design and distributed architectures</li><li>Ability to balance process and pragmatism — improving quality without adding unnecessary complexity</li><li>Experience with modern cloud environments (AWS or similar), CI/CD, and containerisation</li><li>Familiarity with observability and operational excellence practices</li><li>Strong communication and stakeholder management skills (English required; German is a plus)</li><li>Curiosity and adaptability to quickly learn new technologies and domains</li></ul><p><br/></p><p>Tech stack</p><p>Our primary stack includes Node.js, TypeScript, AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, SNS/SQS, DynamoDB, ECS/Fargate), Docker, GitHub, CircleCI, and Terraform.</p><p><br/></p><p>Location &amp; setup</p><ul><li>Berlin, Germany</li><li>Cross-functional product team</li><li>Hands-on leadership role combining technical contribution and people management</li></ul><p></p> </div>
