Lead AI Engineer

This is a highly hands-on position, split approximately 70% engineering and 30% operational team leadership.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Key responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Leading the engineering team’s day-to-day technical delivery while remaining hands-on with the codebase</li><li>Making architecture and implementation decisions alongside the CTO</li><li>Designing and building secure, scalable features for a multi-tenant AI platform</li><li>Developing AI-first functionality involving inference, retrieval, tool use and guardrails</li><li>Contributing to model evaluation, fine-tuning, RAG and inference optimisation</li><li>Establishing best practices across CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, observability and monitoring</li><li>Taking ownership of complex production issues</li><li>Coaching engineers through code reviews, pairing and technical guidance</li><li>Working closely with Product and the CTO to turn roadmap requirements into deliverable projects</li></ul><p><br/></p><p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>Several years of experience as a Senior or Lead Software Engineer</li><li>Strong backend engineering experience with the ability to work across the full stack</li><li>Experience building and operating SaaS products in production</li><li>Previous experience leading a small engineering team, ideally within a startup or scale-up</li><li>Strong knowledge of APIs, microservices, distributed systems and software architecture</li><li>Good working proficiency with Python; Java or Rust experience would be beneficial</li><li>Experience with Docker, CI/CD, observability and cloud or datacentre deployments</li><li>Exposure to AI or LLM applications, including RAG, inference APIs or guardrails</li><li>Fluent or native-level German and excellent English</li><li>Swiss citizenship is required</li><li>Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with high ownership</li></ul><p><br/></p><p><strong>Additional information:</strong></p><ul><li>Permanent, full-time position</li><li>Hybrid working with access to offices in Zurich or Davos</li><li>Approximately 70% hands-on engineering and 30% team leadership</li><li>Employee share participation available after onboarding</li><li>Opportunity to build AI products used in highly regulated environments</li></ul><p><br/></p><p>This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants to remain hands-on while taking responsibility for the technical delivery and development of a small team.</p> </div>
