You will:</strong></p><ul><li>Manage and support the European Tribology Centre (ETC) database running on GRANTA MI — managing a mixed server environment (2× Linux, 1× Windows) hosted on Azure, including user access, backups, updates, and SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle</li><li>Design and implement data schemas for new scientific domains (metal additive manufacturing, lubricant science) following FAIR data principles and materials ontology standards</li><li>Build and maintain REST APIs that connect our database with partner institutions across international research consortia</li><li>Write Python scripts and automation tools for data ingestion, validation, transformation, and analytics pipelines</li><li>Take over the development of a web-based user interface for data ingestion</li><li>Integrate experimental results from tribological, wear, and materials testing into structured, queryable datasets</li><li>Set up and maintain automated data transfer workflows between partner machines and the central database</li></ul><p>━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━</p><p> ✅ WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR</p><p> ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━</p><p>Mandatory:</p><ul><li>Residence and right to work in Austria</li><li>Professional-level English (written and spoken)</li><li>Solid Python skills — you write clean, reusable code for data tasks regularly</li><li>Experience in EU-funded or nationally funded research projects</li><li>Comfort working in international, multi-partner environments</li></ul><p>Required background:</p><ul><li>Materials engineering or a related field — you understand the data you'll be working with</li></ul><p>Desirable (any combination helps):</p><ul><li>Experience with GRANTA MI or similar scientific/materials database platforms</li><li>Linux server administration (Ubuntu/Debian/RHEL) — you're comfortable on the command line</li><li>Windows Server administration — basic configuration, services, and troubleshooting</li><li>Azure cloud administration — VM management, networking, storage, and security configuration</li><li>SSL/TLS certificate management — issuing, renewing, and deploying certificates across services</li><li>Database design: schema modeling, SQL or NoSQL, metadata structures</li><li>REST API development or integration (e.g. FastAPI, Flask, requests)</li><li>Web UI development (any framework — the goal is usability, not aesthetics)</li><li>Familiarity with FAIR data principles, materials ontologies</li><li>Experience with data augmentation, ML pipelines, or AI tooling</li></ul><p>━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━</p><p> 🌍 ABOUT i-TRIBOMAT / ETC</p><p> ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━</p><p>i-TRIBOMAT is an Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB) born from Horizon 2020, uniting Europe's leading tribology laboratories. I-TRIBOMAT GmbH operates the European Tribology Centre Database — the world's largest repository of tribology datasets — and provides industry access to 130+ test rigs and characterization systems.</p><ul><li>We are expanding this infrastructure into metal additive manufacturing and sustainable lubricant design as part of two active funded projects.
